Passage
Description: I'm still playing around with this landscape. Camera is a bit left of what we see in ?Trees?. The passage was made with a booleaned-in stone. There is a radial in there to give the cave wall some light. The chap in the boat is lit by the lantern in front of him in the boat. The scene is lit exclusively by the Bryce sun and a supporting radial. The radial has no shadows, soft shadows for the sun, premium render with 36 rays/px.

The more obvious trees are the same ones I made in Dryad but with a different leaf material. No richter, there is no random function in Dryad but it is easy to create variations. I was too lazy and just copied the same tree. I didn't think it was so obvious. There are 3 more trees which are mostly in the shadow: Yucca made in Bryce.

Very relaxing scene. This water mat is really becoming my favorite.

How would you compare the trees in Dryad to Bryce trees? I was just looking at the Dryad site and was wondering what the advantages are?

Dryad

Thank you RenderMan. Bryce trees are made of meta balls and they have knots in the trunk and branches. Dryad misses the roots, which are helpful to land a tree. In Dryad, you see what you are do while you are doing it, which makes it very intuitive. Bryce trees always look like Bryce trees, those made in Dryad (or Arbaro for that matter) look somehow more professional. Big disadvantage of Dryad are the rectangular leaves - here, Bryce has an edge. You can zoom in quite near in a Bryce tree if the leaves hide the branches and twigs. Bryce trees have a smaller memory footprint than those made in Dryad or Arbaro. So, for me, there is no better or worse, just better suited here than there - or vice versa. Using different vegetation tools may make a scene more interesting.

I am downloading Dryad right now. Thanks for the info and the comparisons. I do like the idea of no roots on the Dryad trees. But now I need to check out Arbaro. Thanks

The water in this scene looks allot like some lakes and streams in Montana. The terrain under the water gives the appearance of moss and boulders.

All is working well together. Your lighting scheme was simple and fast. I do notice the lack of lights when I consider how dark the shadows are here. Perhaps a less aggressive bump setting will work better under these simple lights. But in general I think you have found a great result on so little resources of light.

Yes Rashad, the shadows are quite dark. I had experimented with an additional hdri to improve ambience (and with another sun angle, more haze, etc.), but gave up, because I like this version with the strong contrast.

I see, maybe I'll give Dryad or Arbaro a try. In my opinion, for this last version of the series, not the bump but the geometry of the terrain itself needs to be altered, in a more high res eroded way. Your material is trully nice but the terrain here needs to catch-up. The lack of additional lighting has made it difficult to me to recognize there are trees at the start. They seem to blend a bit too much with the rock mat behind.
