Quiet Shore
Description: This is another one of my sky creations. This should come as no surprise but I am good with sky and atmospheric style scenery, but horrible with landscaping terrain. I will share my secret of skies if someone helps me with landscaping. Please assist.

Landscapes

Another great sky there, but for some reason it's angle (?) does not seem to be compatable with the water - either that or it looks like the water stops short of the horizon? Is that a clue as to how it was done? As for landscapes, I usually use Mordor, start with low res until I find one I like, lock of the fractal generator by unticking the three options near the bottom, scale up and then regenerate the same fractal. From the top down view I zoom back 5x and scale the landscape up to that size - that way I have set a standart for the materials I intend to apply. Materials I usually choose the vertical texture seperately from the horizontal and use the C channel to control the slope of each (download the bluebellwoods material as an example of my approach) in fact you could use that as a starting point and interchange the A and B textures for any one of the presets (use the Alt key and click on the name of the texture to preview a range - so much more helpful than a list of names) should you so desire... Any questions, fire away. But that essentally is an overview of how I go about producing landscapes.

This sky should look familar.

This is actually one of your skies that you posted on your website Daid. This sky was done by using your sky preset. I took your sky preset, and altered it a little. Then I rotated the trackball so the camera faces the sky. I saved the bryce image as a jpeg then apply the jpeg to the same technique as I posted in nice sky.

You may ask why not just merge the image. Well the reason is very simple. It is because the shadow of the landscape, for instance a mountain will cast a shadow on the sky, because its not actully a sky its a terrain with a sky material.

P.S. These technique's are very new to me as well. I look forward to seeing what these techniques will do in the hands of others.

Lol!

You got me there, I'm so busy most of the time I can't remember what I have and have not done. Let me know how you get on with the landscapes, I rather imagined you'd want to ask more questions. Cool technique, but I think it's going to be hard work getting things just right.

Yeah its pretty hard to Get right

I've been trying to get things just rght with a previous landscape I have work with, but the scene always wants to cast shadows on the sky terrain in the baackground so I figured the only way to prevent this is in Photoshop. Its very hard to do, and get it right. I suppose if your entering a iimage for a contest you would want that little extra umpf to it, but otherwise just alot of tweaking of sky presets and camera angles would do just fine.

I have alot of questions about landscapes and I hope that you would continue to be so gracious as to answer them.

Oh yes I will also post my sky materials that I used for this sky on the website. They should be posted by tommorrow. Have fun with them.

P.S. I am having continuously larger rendering times with many of my images. Of course my renders are no where as near as complex as other people's works on this website. What I am trying to get at is that if anyone would like help rendering something I would be more than willing to help with Bryce Lighting just email me. I have high speed so internet connection should not be a problem. Cya later.
