I must say, there is a real charm to this piece. The behavior of the materials and the interaction with the light is most fascinating. I do wonder if how the scene has been lit. Excellent job to capture such a cool effect.

Lucky combo

Thanks, Rashad! I have to admit I was just lucky to get this effect....I haven't had time to work with it as much as I'd like yet (was up late mesmerized by spektyr's images & animations!)

The texture, colors, reflections all are spell-binding for me, and am glad it affected you, too. Bijan's dunes are most critical I think. Will try the others
with other waters, skies.

I like shiney glass/metal objects that reflect their surroundings.

Am going to add a spacecraft at some point or at least animate the camera for a fly-through.

Also animated the sun, but the effect wasn't as dramatic as I wanted.

Really enjoying Bryce7Pro. Hope to learn a lot from you all. =)

Visually arresting for such a seemingly simple piece. You indeed do have a good combination of form and materail and lighting. You will find there is plenty to occuply you if you enjoy exploring such things, by driving terrains with procedruals via the DTE, the same method as used for cityscapes, but instead choose functions like waves or sin or weird gradient where there trasitions are smooth.

Good work.

Thanks David! Very helpful suggestions. I found an indepth tutorial on demystifying the DTE. by Robin Wood.

Will try all you mentioned. =)

The light on the main subject is definitely interesting and very effective. For me, it is a bit difficult to rank this picture: is it something depicting reality or is it entirely fantasy. This is not a problem of your artwork, rather with my not comming completely to grips with it.

Hi Horo,
I hope it will stir everyone's imagination to wonder at where it's located, what's around the corner of this ice chasm. I haven't explored it all myself yet.
You never know where Bryce will lead you! =)

For me it's just creating environments that are starkly beautiful, and maybe to fly through with one of my Martian ships. I started to with this one, but the ship detracted from the beauty of the icescape.

I imagine this to be a planet somewhere outside our Solar system or maybe even a moon of Jupiter or Saturn.....we'll have to wait till the planet rises to see
which one. ;)

An ongoing project of mine and theme is to create
a mountainous landscape and fly a ship through it.
It all stems from my fascination with the 1953 movie, War of the Worlds when I saw it at 8yr old.
Still gives me goosebumps!

Will upload stills & movies I did in Carrara (to the non-Bryce area).

Who doesn't love War of the Worlds! If you did into the freed model repository here you will find a "critter" inspired by the description in the book of the harvester fighting machine, which was a more spider like affiair with a cage on top for holding humans for later processing - very charming.
