Ice World1
Description: Natural ice sculptures in Antarctica, etc have always fascinated me.

The ice slopes are a sand dune by Bijan with a Backyard Pool water material, and the sky is Storm Rising 1.

The other images are different points of view and sun angles.

Will try adding vol clouds next round only if they add to the scene...want to keep it simple.

My thoughts on this one are similar to those I posted on the other image. I think in this shot however the illusion is different. I think the visible horizon line is the difference for me, I think I liked it better when it was hidden as in the other angle. Still, this material and light and model combination does draw the eye in and it is hard to ignore. Spellbinding is a sense.

First try

This was my first try.....I like the softer look to the ice. But you are right, I overlooked the horizon.

I tried using the ice dune in one of David's cloudscapes, but not getting the same results (yet), but will work with it. =)

Again, nice work, here's something to try as an alternative to a horizon.

Select the terrain, ctrl-c and ctrl-v
Use EDIT menu
Convert selection to... Cube.
(now you will have a cube wrapped exactly around the terrain you started with)
Apply this materail to the cube,
http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=2316&mode=search

You may have to go into render options and increase the ray depth.

If the camera is inside the cube (which helps) the top is open to let light in. The sides are mirrored and will extend your terrain to "infinity" - for which read ray depth. Just some fun.

Because the mirroring is faded, you may have to lift either the sides of the cube or the camera to get the desired effect. The experiment will be instructive.

Interesting scene. The ice terrain looks a bit like a whale skin.

Hi Horo,
yes like that under the jaw that balloons when they feed. Haven't had time yet to explore Bijan's dune
to see how it's done or change the pool water material to see it's settings. So many interesting variables to explore.

Just the tip of the iceberg!
(no pun of course =)
