Mountain Shrine
Description: Michael 4 with the Desert Soldier outfit is from DAZ3D, the Big Dome by Colin Swift, hat and pickaxe were found on the Internet. The material on the terrain is a modified version of David's Mountain of madness, the water is a modified variant of my calm grey water and the sky modified from the library (also by David). Lit by the Bryce sun. The shadows are at 100 and brightened up by my Illhorn HDRI. Rendered with quality 128 and with normal AA-ing, though soft shadows were engaged in te Sky Lab. The terrain is 1024 but should have been set to 2048. There are angles visible at lower right. I was able to commit 8 CPU cores to render this one over the network and it finished in 4 hours.

The image is nice and crisp, feels cold. The lighting is very pleasing, especially the indirect light. The terrain is noticable as low res in a couple of places, but otherwise I think the terrain is probably the best aspect of the piece. This sky is perfect, deep blue as the thin air at high altitudes. Interesting, the water seems to be lacking in transparency, I know it is not, it is just the reflection combined with the camera angle. Some of the shadows on his face are too deep, an additional radial or two nearby might have remedied that without ruining the overal lighting for the scene.

8 cores huh? Great! I am curious just how you have done this. How long would this have taken on your dual core system? $ hours is pretty good considering, and I belive your default resolution is 1600 wide am i correct? The maximum upload size here on Bryce5.com is 1280.

Thank you JoJA. Ah Rashad, you're right about the dark shadows around Indy. The HDRI could not help there. Pity I haven't noticed. About the 8 cores: I had to test some new network rendering and this was a good example for it. And the water is actually 100 percent transparent with 0 reflection. It's the refraction that spoils the transparency at this angle. Or it is due to that observation of yours about 0.2 and 240.

A very nice and crisp as rashad mentioned.
I only wonder, what are those lines i see in the water?
Perhaps that underwatertrain from Riven.

Great render Horo!

I really like this picture. The only suggestion I have is the shrine seems to be a little bit small. It doesn't look that far away compared to the person. Everything else I think looks great.
