Cabin
Description: Just felt like doing a simple landscape. The cabin is from a project back in summer 2003. This is only one terrain, the material applied to it a mix of textures by David and myself. The clouds cast shadows, the sun lights the scene. The shadows are brightened up by the Gossiping-HDRI (available on my website), quality 64, intensity 10 and effect 75. Rendered premium with (just) 4 rays and soft shadows.

I think this scene is aw2esome. I really like the light. The procedural you have applied to the terrain is amazing. In one material you've got grass where it should be, and stone where it should be. With the IBl "surround sound" lighting the bump mapping looks very 3d. Something that is usually a problem for procedural grass. You have us back far enough from the grass to mkae this approach feasible. The water looks very realistic. The sky is also doing it's job.

The balance of direct light intensity compared to indirect light intensities, are not so far from one another. The shadows are very well illuminated and it works well for me. 5/5!

Yes, I agree with Rashad's comments. The material bump has interacted very well with the IBL, my only criticism from a compositional perspective is that the scene lacks fore and/or distance. Everything is very much in the middle ground. Not that there is anything particularly wrong with that, just that providing more visual depth usually allows an even greater illusion of three dimensionallity.

I am impressed with the terrains. I have looked at what you call a simple landscape several times and try to figure out how you were able to pull this off with only one terrain. Very nice.

Is this another one of you water mats?

I am not so sure about the cabin but after all it is a few years old.

It was not meant to be a great piece of art, rather, I needed something to create spherical panoramas using different lenses, emulationg the one or the other I might eventually purchase for my DSLR camera. I want make sure I have the appropriate programs and can handle them.

The hut is indeed rather meager and David is right about the composition being just middleground. I am, however, very pleased how nice and 3D-ish the material on the therrain shows. And yes RenderMan, this is the same water you've used. I just changed the colour to grey and fiddled a bit with bump size and hight.

Thanks all for your kind comments.

the texture is very good, very different I should say, but it looks realistic I think. other then the ivy lines, which I hard to get rid off, but those could be rock formations who knows.
