A Fight To Beging
Description: Clouds are on an infinite plane, this can be animated. Render time on my crappy computer was 1 hour, regular anti. Any advice for improvement?

improvement

In my opnion you have done well with the scene as far as keeping the render time low. I don't think you can go much further without raising render times. The clouds are the issue. The surface plane you've applied works well, but they are flat, which is fine for the impression but probably not as realistic as you want. The procedural for the cloud plane clouds don't display and density or shading varations within the clouds. You can give the cloud plane clouds some internal activity if you play around with the layers of the deep texture editor. You seem to know alot about what bryce can do so you already know that volumetrics could be a good route for you to go, or maybe a combination of both cloud plane and a few volumetrics. As long as the scene file isn't that large, you can re-render this scene with volumetrics while working on others. No need to tie up the computer.

.

Those are volume clouds on an infinite plane :(

I guess, I can change the basic shading, but last time I did that it didn't give good results, maybe through textures then. I will have to think about this.

Perhaps you could just add another one or two of those planes to enhance the impression of depth. Unless the moon or planet is an artificial one, I would change the mat on it.

voluemntric planes

Oh my gat. Perhaps it's this. I have found that planes can give odd results. a regular plane of course is just a simple flat object. but a slab is really just 2 planes that if close snouvh together begin to look oike a cloud with "depth." If you apply a 3d volumetric cloud to a 2d plane, you will get a 2d result. The volumetrics want three dimensions to show their stuff. Yes basic shading is better. Just lower the base density to brighten things back up.
