Mountain Pass
Description: Lit with a conbination of IBL "bith-am1900.hdr" probe made by Horo and standard bryce sunlight. The light from the probe was set almost high enough to light the scene itself, which with the addition of sun became quite bright, this was compensated for by gamma compression in psp8. Again a variation of Frozencry's streaming sunlight material applied to a cone in the top right of the image to emphasise the position of the sun. Two terrains employed to form the landscape and a latticice forms the rather unlikely bridge over the pass. "bith-am1900.hdr" is in fact a six sided test card image but the combination of saturated colours in this seems to provide a very pleasent quality of ambient light - even though there is little posibility of using it as a backdrop for such a scene as this.

Good job! The best outdoor snow and rocks I have seen so far, very realistic. The only con are the rocks upfront they look a bit pointy (like low resoultion), but they are easy to miss.

The landscape is grandiose. The sky and light rays are very fitting to this setup. I am rather surprised that this test probe turned out to give such a fine ambient light (after all, a test probe). It is a cold and rough place. A dragon or a nybras, probably also a few trols hurling boulders around could give this place an extraordinary focus.

I did trial a Dragon out... but decided against it because the image was already quite dramatic. Now you've made me wonder if I made the right choice...

Dramatic

Of course, you're right. This is a very dramatic picture and complete as it is. Not to use the dragon was most probably the right decision. But I think either a horde of trolls coming up in the middle ground or some trolls nearby (right of centre) having fun with boulders might give this picture a new quality. But it is indeed difficult to decide whether that would be over doing it. Putting in some beasts would also jeopardise the ambiguity of size here. As it is, the viewer decides how large or small that bridge is. This place could be gigantic or just ordinary sized. We have not direct clue. And this is part of the charm.

beautiful

The ibl gives stones a nice weathered and dry sort of look. What a great combination of colors. The snow is especially nice. I'm not too crazy about lattice seams. Or maybe I'm missing something. Anyhow, it has a great feel of actually being there. Great bryce work.
