The Desk
Description: Rendered with Bryce7 with regular AA. First, I know everyone is going to ask about the door. Here you have to use your imagination, is it going to an attic, or a deck, or another room. Also, this has quite a few errors, but I did this one fairly fast. Not too many items for you to look at Horo, lol.

Oh Garry, a new Rebel. How I've longed to see another render of yours. A house in the woods. Very nice landscape outside the window. The door - well I think it just leads to a staircase to the ground. Keeps out some of the smaller animals. Friendly light. I love it.

Your renders remind me of I spy books. You can look at them for hours, and still find new things to look at, and contemplate. My only issue is that the texture on the desk looks oddly low res, compared to the rest of the room. As for the door, I'm remebering The Matrix: Reloaded.

All the elements are very well done but overall I get the impression there is something slightly wonky with the perspective or positioning of the horizon. It is not a blatant issue, but there is a minor ambiguity of scale between the things on the desk and the things behind the desk that gives me the impression that I seeing a collage of flat objects. It is rather difficult to explain. Maybe I am alone in this?

If I were sat at a desk, for example, and looking at the scene through the window, I believe that the path would hardly be visible from this angle.

You're not alone, David. If I would look at this picture as a photograph, I would not only point out the path on the outside but also the impresson of the height of the desk and the floor.

I love what I call "Rebels's style" so much because there is reality if looked at things isolated and often when looking at them globally, they appear quite, but not completely right but it is always very hard to point out exactly what is a bit amiss. It's like music that is in harmony but some small part embedded sounds a tad apart. This adds some tension to his artwork and makes me behold it much longer. As Ealan once put it: art is what makes you think.

Thanks to all for the comments. I agree with all. I was trying to give the impression that it was a child looking over the desk. But, lately my works are suffering about the same as I am. My health is not getting any better. So far, I have survived the cancer, but now I have a mysterious Blood Disease that is causing the inflammation of my red blood cells, if the size of my red blood cells keeps growing, I guess I don't have to tell you what would happen.

I very sorry to hear that Rebel. Sounds to me like you are suffering far worse than your works! The points raised are minor and without knowing what your intent was it is impossible to guess the impression you wish to achieve. I can offer only artistic advice...

Consider the wooded avenue visible through the window. To give the impression this is seen through the eyes of a child the horizon needs to be dropped to the level of a childs eyeline.

Presently the eyeline is halfway up the window. If you have a child model stand one in the scene to get a better grip on the overall scale of the rest of the objects in the scene.

If the viewer is a child and there is a child of similar height in the scene then the horizon will be level with the eyes of the viewer and the child in the scene. Once this is established it can be used as a guide to everything else.
