Meet your Cartoon Character
Description: Victoria 3, her cloth and sandals as well as the Toon Alien with its spaceship are all from DAZ3D. The Vicorias are twins, of course, posed in D|S and the left one got all cel materials - an idea brought forward by richter. The mess is put into a pentagon column which has David's fading mirror material applied to. Outside is the starry Bryce sky.

Now the main challenge is lighting a semi-real Victoria and a toon Victoria at the same time because of the materials used. I finally resorted to 4 radials without falloff and without shadow casting each at 90 degrees of the sun, which was dimmed down and is responsible for the shadows. Rendered with a max. ray depth of only 2 it took about 10 minutes.

It's interesting the way the toon Victoria apears to be coarse contrast in the same image with the smooth contrast semi real Victoria. It makes one wonder just how it was done. Cool experiment! ;-)

Very interesting challenge I have never played with toons but I can see were this would be difficult to do. It appears that in order to give the toon appearance that a grainy effect is added. I could see were it would be hard to do the lighting. I like the cool little dude in the spaceship.

The idea for mixing the real shaded 3d with the toon-style 3d is very original. The grain comes from the bump in the material, but although the result seems interesting I think that the grain is a bit too much. I wonder if the lil' alien will eventually get too close to the mirror and crash ;) Overall, very nice image, Horo.

Yes, the bump is the issue I noticed. I like the mirror work it adds depth and complexity while keeping ot simple. A woman shaking her own hands must have been a boon to pose.

Thank you all for your comments. Bump was intentionally used on the toon Victoria to create some airbrush effect. But I've rerendered the scene without bump and I must say, it looks much better.
