The Wheel (WIP)
The Wheel (WIP)

The Wheel (WIP)
Description: I have been trying to improve my modeling and texture skills.
I think one of the first renders I posted here was something like this one, but found myself doing it again.
I plan to add more models, a lug wrench and some other stuff.
Rendered in Bryce, wheels in Wings 3d.
I did some post work with paint shop pro.
( image on the right ).
I may work on this one on and off for while.
I do have a couple of other WIPS I may post in the next day or two.

Nice job with the modelling. The description above is a touch low in specifics, as this is a wip I have some general questions. First, what do you suspect the ultimate goal may be? Also, how was the scene lit exactly? The lighting seems good as the soft shadows look great. If the wheel has ambient it seems okay for now. The warm color of the light you used on the right side image looks very good to me. I think this wheel might need a more specific material, though the material you used for the earlier versions was nice I can see why you would want to use something different here.

The rim is a very nice model. The material used on it probably not the best choice - perhaps a bit of reflection. The floor looks very nice. I would like the wall equally if it were not for the two seams visible. The lighting setup is very good.

same as above, also I think that the one on the right looks better, I suspect it is because of post work?

Superb modeling! Let's see, maybe a cobalt blue metal flake powder coat for the ultimate finishing touch? ;-)

Good work. 5/5

For a work in progress this rim looks excellent. I like both renders equally. If you modelled the rim from scratch I can truly shake your hand for that. You are definitely improving. The textures have very natural look. If you can't go around the tex's seams issue mentioned above, you'll do good to hide the seams by putting an object in front of those specific places. Keep going!!

Sorry it took so long

Sorry it took so long for me to respond

I don't have specific goal in mind for this render. It started out as just practice, then I kind of liked the way it began to look so I decided to continue working on it.
The only lighting used is beach_hdr.
Quality 256
intensity 2.5
HDRI effect 100
The soft shadows are not turned on.
Render is normal AA
I have tried to texture the wheel many times, tried and tried nothing seems to look right.
The wheel is all wings but was inspired by a render David did, I'm not sure what his was called.
The seems on the wall, I will fix with post work after all the other details are complete.
After I add a few more models I will render again and then will add the warm color with post work.
Often when I seem to get stuck on something I go take a look around the gallery and find inspiration and lots of ideas.
Thanks for the input you guys give it helps me improve.

Congratulations on the wheel rim modeling, I know how tricky it is since as you observed, I've tried my hand at the same subject. I was warned when I made mine that alloys only appear to bow out in the middle - which is something to bear in mind. From a rendering perspective, the materials look very good and your post production really brought things to life. The "seams" mentioned are a bit obvious, but I feel certain that with your clearly improving skills you will find a solution to that. Good work, and worth 5, even if it is a wip.
