Claustropano
Description: Wasps and dragonflies are from DAZ3D. A claustropano is a panorama made inside a very small room, here in a cage with insects (I've seen a photographic that was made inside a refrigerator with closed door and this brought me to the idea to attempt one myself).

This picture is a spherical panorama represented in the Mercato projection (also known as equirectangular or latitude/longitude). Download it and map it parametric on a sphere in Bryce (sphere at X/Y/Z=0/0/0 with a size of 200 BU), place the camera at 0/0/0 with a FOV of 90? to 120?, remove the ground plane and add a radial light at 0/0/0 with an intensity of 5 at no falloff. Move the camera around, you are within the panorama and hopefully feel very claustrophobic with all the insects.

The camera is at the dragonfly level, dirty glass plates separate the upper and lower level with the wasps. The rust comes from David but is not at the grid, but projected on it. 3 radials give light. It was rendered as 6 cube faces with 800 pixels each side and needed 10 hours to render. These faces were assembled and transformed to this projection (a cubical QTVR panorama is on my web site).

I've got to try this one out. I already feel those wasps buzzing around me. The only thing I would change is the Dragonflies' eyes. Now they look too solid. A bit transparent maybe? Good one!

This image is well named! Most oppressive and creepy and if that was the aim you have been highly sucessful. However, I can't say I'd want to hang this image over my fireplace.

Using the quicktime viewer to see it in it's full glory makes a big difference to the impression made by the image. Very horrible and impressive and horrible.
