very good

First of all, Kudos to David for the sky and ice material. It is so amazing what a properly realistic sky color can do for an image. The snow texture is great also. David produced a second version of his scene "Relics" for Daz to example the ibl feature. Most people unless they are visitors of this site have never seen the original. Personally, I think the version David made without the .hdr was much better than the one he made later for daz using the .hdr. David rendered the original in 5.5 long ago. To me it looks great. In the .hdr version, he had to turn the water into an almost silver texture to avoid complications between ibl and water transparency. He did other things too and though the scene we get when we purchase bryce6 looks good, I think the original looks alot more real. The .hdr he used was bluish in color and I think a move in the wrong direction since bryce can tend to be a bit overly blueish anyway. Check out the original and tell me what you think.

I say all of that to say that there is no need for ibl in this scene.

I really like the way you have the broken pieces floating about and the dried cracked ice almost looks like a desert.

As a person who knows bryce a bit too well, I can see that symmetrical lattices were used for some of the segments. I wish there was a way to make those stupid seams go away. Otherwise, this pic looks great.

Someday I will suggest that you try out secondary light sources instead of ambient expression in the materials lab. There has been alot of discussion (by me mostly) about more realistic ways of lighting scenes instead of depending solely on the ambient channel in the materials lab for shadow corrections.

But over-all, a very good scene. Excellent set-up. It feels very cold.

.

I think I used very little ambient, because I didn't change the ice material from the originals state, it looks ambient because of reflection.

I took a look at the image you were talking about. The one without IBl looks better, except for the soft shadows, but the shadow on the IBL image is way too blurry I think.

Anyways, thanks for the comment.

Good work. I wonder what those mataballs (?) are. However, great piece of work. I hear the cracking of the ice. If it were in Antarcta, I'd like to see a few penguins in the middleground.

A very appealing image, I particularly like those metaballs (?) that Horo observed, even if we don't know what they are they give us something to look at. Maybe the image is somewhat barren, but given the subject, I guess that fits. Good use of terrains and lattices, the symetry seam does kinda give the game away to us "Brycers" but that is a minor detail. Good work.
