The Valachia Castle is a free resource by 'Army' (Alan Armstrong), the knights and dargons by DAZ3D and the amour in the entrance from 3D Game Studio. Lit by a selfmade HDRI (Quality 256, Intensity 1.5, Effect 100) and it is rendered as backdrop (see http://www.horo.ch/photos/hdri/html/hmarmorera_en.html for more information.

There are quite a few objects. The 3840 diameter HDRI made problems and I could not use the 6400 pixel HDRI. I therefore rendered with the 3840 one and additionally rendered a mask. Then I deleted all objects and just rendered the 6400 diameter HDRI separately with the same settings. The resulting picture was sharpened in Photoshop. Both renders were calculated together in HDRShop using the rendered Mask to get a well focused backdrop.

As you all know I am always trying to create complex landscapes in Bryce. Because Bryce lacks instancing technology, it can be very difficult to place the thousands of trees necessary for most natural scenes without hitting a memory wall. Vue has Eco-systems. Carrara has somehting similar, but Bryce has no such thing. In this case I am using trees to fake an eco-system. What do we think?

A long lost and forgotten relic of damnation, or, in other words, one more necromancer's artifact. That was basically the concept I was after.
Technically, as lighting this is Pro Render plus IBL used only for the reflection over the ruby. Very-very weak, let's say "intervention", by ibl in the overall light setup. As far as PRend is concerned - just the default sun slightly side tilted. Following an advice by Pumeco I typed in values between 75~85% grayscale (RGB = 36,36,36 exactly) for the Ambient Glow in the SkyLab, and that alowed me to introduce some bump (on the ground plane), which otherwise was lost due to the default centered sun position and the full-black amb. glow. Models and textures by me.
Postwork - contrast correction in PS and getting rid of a few "perfect" edges on a stone or two (bryce stones) here and there. Rendered with the current res, 36rpp both to keep the img's harsh look and quicker rend-time... overall rendertime = 5h22mins.
