Network Plugs
Description: Not a very exciting image I must say, just some network plugs made in Wings3d and put together and rendered in Bryce. Why? Well, it was for an illustration, the view was top down on the plugs but I rose to the challange and rendered them in 3D; actually I thought it was going to be easy but as it turned out it was a pig to do. So there you go. And it took days to render too!

Nice!

Nice picture.
Was it textured in Bryce?
Plastic-material looks very real.

Texturing

Cheers, yes the texturing such as it was was done in Bryce. The plasitc is just the Standard Glass preset, the thing to do to make it look right was fiddle with the lighting. Shadows are a bit stark and strange though - every time half global lighting was used the glass material would scatter a load of bright shards over the ground so - unless the dome we placed way above the whole scene, in which case it didn't do anything - it was either that or funny shadows.

Quite accurate

With all that fiddly-bits detail, I bet you spent some time on that one -- and it doesn't show it. I'm not surprised at long render time, either. Half transparent and half reflecting are always demanding. As for the RJ45: it's one of the cheap types. Next challenge for you: create the tool to crimp on the cable ;-) Impressing work, more accurate than just ?quite?.
