SeashoreII
Description: Finally got around to finishing the seashore image - took some doing, tried all kinds of ways to get the water right and hopefully found one! Anyhow the rocks are the Morro Cove model off the Bryce2 disc with the barnicle texture and winter thaw texture combined in a height sensitive material with a few palette changes. Similar lighting arrangemets to the winter thaw image and a bit of distance masking to blur the horizon and take the starkness of that line. Lots of fun!

Horizon

Something seems wrong with the rocks which are in the light, probably the colour. The wet sand with the ripples is very good, indeed. The water at the shore and the foam convincing. The waves look breathtakingly real, particularly so the 1st and 2nd row. It is calm, the size could also fit for a lake, considering the weather as suggested by the fitting sky. The horizon, however, is too sharp and thus looks unreal to me. Around water, there is always some mist in the air. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful work.

Incredible!

I've recently been to the coast and can say this is 95% accurate. the colour of the rocks ahould be grayish. also the orange part of the sky do not mach with te rest of the scene. Anyway, this is exellent! foam is perfect, texture (not the colour) of the rocks is perfect. 10/5. I'm impressed.

Hmm

I have a grudge with this image, yet seem to love it at some points. The water in the background is fairly lifelike and it's perfectly fine looking in the overall image. The rippling effect in the shallow water is nice, and the foamy water looks extra lifelike. My grudge lies mostly with the lighting and those rocks. The rocks just, aren't real, and to be honest I really don't like them like that :( The lighting is kind of odd, and if you focus on that shadow for a bit it takes the realism out of the overall image. I like the rocks on the very right side however, they look very lifelike through my perspective, but the rocks in front...argh, I don't know why but they just kill it for me. 80% of it is great, but the other 20% I believe still needs some touch-ups, but this doesn't mean that you haven't impressed me, I still like the image! :)

OK, maybe it's not finished then...

Some very interesting comments - got me thinking. I can see this is going to be an ongoing challenge. Your annalysys's (I'm going for a plural here) is usually pretty good so I'll see what I can do. I suppose there is no point in me arguing my corner - except for technical considerations. So... here's how the waves were done. Ok, you know the great big waterfall material? Well the foam and waves are all varations of that with more ambient light responce in the foam. The shape of the foam is in fact the default terrain shape, squashed vertically and streached horrizontally and the waves is the hill fractal, once again squashed and streached. There are three foam terrains in this image and about 25 wave ones - none of them high rez terrains due to what this would do to me computer. Thanks Horo for the links I'm taking a note of them now. Worst comes to the worst we'll have to install a satalight link or something - if I we can afford it! Speaking of which I better be getting back to work!
