Fireplace

Fireplace and fire look very good. The logs are a bit small for such a fire and the fags would have long burned away. The forests made of spikes are too obvious. What I like is the width and depth of this landscape and the sky is very good, too.

Yes

Sky and distant mountains do look very good, and the foreground is fine too - it's the middle distance that needs the work, maybe a bit of time building a good thick forest - painful I know since the tree editor crashes all the time and it's far easier to select anything other than trees for some reason when it comes to distributing them and they are heavy on the processor when setting up the scene (this does not sound like such a good idea hey) - Ok, how about a lake with an isle for the middle ground (and a few trees) or a tower. I don't know. But yes, the sky and the mountains outshine the rest. Could always try modifying the gamma/contrast levels to bring the foregound up a bit - just a suggestion.

trees

I tried trees, but it didn't look good and realy messed up the scale. as a general rule, more than ten trees and my processor crashes. and yes the logs in the fire look like dying spiders. plants are a consistant trouble on my scenes. any tips on real plants, scrub/grass especially? I will e-mail you the result.

Yes I know that feeling!

Well there is Plantstudio - which you can download at www.kurtz-furnhout.com - hope I got that right. However, I haven't had time yet to fire it up so I don't know how it goes. As for grass, well I would advise a mixture of using a spikey terrain with a blended transparent material and a few odd tufts made from the end twigs of trees burried deep underground - how you get these is more than anything trial and error with the tree editor. Failing that useing different materials for the middle ground could be a way out, something that looks like scrub or heather would be an option - you could always try modding the bluebell woods and use the mounds function on the terrain editor to throw in a few outcrops. Like you say it's more the scale than anything trying to keep everthing in it's proper place. As for the logs you could sort that by upping the end thickness of the branches and reducing the number of sub-devisions. Please don't e-mail me the result though, not because I don't want to see it, but I'm always experiancing trouble with my e-mail partly because I'm on a very slow connection (these web pages for exaple take two to three minutes to load - very annoyingly slow) but mostly because of the spam filter software and firewall keeps ferritin stuff away. Oh well.

I will try that. plant sudio is worthless, its more unrealistic than my plants and its only a ten hour trial. i will post the result here. and what resolution for the spikes?

PlantStudio

LitoNico, PlantStudio can be used for more then 10 hours, because its free now. Just register with the user name ?PlantStudio is now free? and the number ?5741274255?. You'll find that info at their website under registration. For the fire: why don't you just use terrains in the form of cylinders and give them an appropriate material? I do agree with David that the near middle ground needs something spicy. The far middleground, however, looks perfect to me, even the material applied.
