Rain and Mist
Rain and Mist

Rain and Mist
Description: I thought I'd give the rain thing a whorl, all bryce except for a bit of gamma correction in PSP7 to brighten things up a bit. Used a modified version of my condenstion material right in front of the camera (wide angle). Lower fog plane is just fog, middle blue plane is atmospheric colour perspective and upper is a thin wisp of cloud (so there's variety for you!). Terrain is skinned in a modified version of the bluebell woods. And that's just about it really. But does it look like rain? I'm not convinced.

love it!

This is a really nice one. The only problem that keeps you from a 5/5 is that it looks fuzzy like it did'nt antialias. Mabey premium AA? Or is it just the JPEG? i would post my rain material used on lowtide storm, but its two big for the .mat section. try robinwood.com for a rain mat tutorial.

Rain

Very beautiful countryside. The rain looks fairly good but seems a bit 2D to me, missing depth. Considering the size of the country pictured here, the fog is wrong with this weather condition. We have those -- as we call them -- ?fog seas? when looking from the mountains down into the valley. Those inversions (as the weather folks call them) have a blue sky above and the clouds below. But the picture IS beautiful as it is. 5/5 for art.

2d fuzz

The fuzz and the 2d-ishness come from the same source, the glass plane(2d) I used in front of the camera was slightly bumpy since the appearance of the "rain" in this pic comes in some part from it's disruption (refraction) of the scene behind as it does from chaning the intensity of the light passing through it. I tried multiple planes but that made the image much too dark (and it was dark to start with) - I also tried a 3d material but 3d seems more suited to snow. I was trying to do it all in bryce but maybe by using the snow-ish 3d material on a black backgound and using that as a mask to some kind of disruptive effect on the main image will give more of a 3d feel... I don't know. I'll have to try it and see. We have inversions here on the coast, but it's so flat here we never get to see what they look like from above! If I can find the time I'll try to find some pics - that's not to say that I'll stick religiously to reality, that's the advantage of saying it's art! Poetic liscence. Cheers ;0)

Nice work

Very nice work, you have got the light and colors perfect. I think the fuzzy look fits the image, like it was painted on a peace of paper.
keep up the good work!

Holy crap

My brain has been struggling to think of a creative landscape for a bit now, and you come out quite quickly with this amazing landscape. The rain is very convincing imo, and the landscape is well, spectacular. Love it, 5/5.

Awesome

5 out of 5. Who cares about the fuzziness, it gives it an artistic appearance and helps make the rainy, foggy feel to the image. Keep up the good work.
