Broken Halogen Lamp
Broken Halogen Lamp

Broken Halogen Lamp
Description: All Bryce primitives and Elefont text, which is supposed to look like it's worn off a bit. No post work.
Only a small image but still took 3 hours to render.

Unusual render, the details are excellently well done. My only quibble is that I'm not convinced by the broken glass. But I'd have to break one to be certain, and I don't have a dead one to break. The way the scene is lit, is also very good.

Thanks David. I know what you mean about the break, It' the only way I knew how to do it so it's not brilliant, I need to work on it a bit for future attempts.

I tried googling for images of a broken or smashed lamp, but I couldn't find one of this kind. From your response, I gather it was the limitations of Bryce that stopped you getting the effect you wanted, not not knowing how these lamps break?

Bit of both really, I don't have a broken one to check with, and the only way I can see of doing the broken effect is to use a jagged terrain object in the end of the tube. The may be a better way of doing it in Bryce, I hope so as it's the only 3D rendering program I use.

Fantastic detail!! Very nice materials and generally good lighting. Wish I could model that well. The filament looks incredible.

Thanks rashadcarter1. I agree with David though about the break in the tube, it could be better.

Again outstanding model, and very nicely lit. The cut in the nearer part looks quite good to me.

Hey, how about you put another light that's brand new and lightened-up alongside this one? That would be a worthy training task, wouldn't it :)

I like it! You managed to achieve a caustic effect even, which adds a lot to the photorealism. Congrats about the modeling. If there are some changes to be made - the glass has to be thinner and for additional dispersed broken glass pieces use bryce stones (as jaggy as you can make them) and flatten them to about the same thickness of the lamp hollow body. Small suggestion...
Oh, and that's a top vote. Reminds me of Davids miniature renders work.
