Carpenters Chisels and Mallet.
Carpenters Chisels and Mallet.

Carpenters Chisels and Mallet.
Description: Handles are made of 8 negative cylinders for the grooves, 1 positive cylinder for the main body, 1 negative torus for the pinched part of the main cylinder and 4 neutral torus's for the rings at the pinched part, 1 cone and 2 more torus's for the metal ring.
Wood texture is the same for the mallet and the floor. Negative cylinders were used for the dents in the wood on a positive mallet head.
Text from Elefont.
The text on the handles is not actually sitting on the bottom of the yellow grooves but is told to cast no shadows so it looks like it is.

Thank you slepalex.
I've been looking at you stuff lately, I really like the Citrus and Grapes image. Very realistic. The only thing I would have done would be to make the grapes slightly transparent, only very slightly though.

You're an excellent modeler. The tools are great, and as they are lit, look very real. Thanks for sharing how you went about it. I don't see how this could be improved (well, perhaps another wood material for the work bench). 5/5.

Thanks Horo, I may still change the wood material on the mallet for a lighter colour wood.

Very accurate render. I can only agree my previous writers. Top marks.

If had to find a flaw, but a tiny one... From an ergonomical point of view one could argue, that the tops of the handles are very sharp, maybe too sharp for the tender palms, which should use it. (I see know I am reaching the edge of my english knowledge. But I hope, I could make myslef a bit clear.)

Thanks very much elvis. I did use a squashed sphere on the end of the handles to give a slightly domed look, but the way the lighting is you can't actually see it so I did'nt mention it in the description. I've just rendered it with different light settings and it looks like I squashed it a little to much because it still looks a bit flat and sharp. I may do it again and change the lighting so it is visible.

Pretty amazing, could almost be mistaken for a photograph.

To improve it further would require a couple of simple things.
1. You need a higher resolution wood texture. This one is good but not quite suitable for this close of a view.
2. I think that this shot could use a little bit of indirect light. Not material glow, but likely some small degree of IBL or light dome. The reason is that when you look at areas such as the mallet you can see the shadows are very dark. Remember that this scene is probably set in real life in some sort of room with walls and likely not a room that is completely black. for lots of reasons it seems likely to me that at least a little more light should find its way into the shaded areas.

Still this image is beautiful in particular the shade of blue and the way the blue and the gold from the wood get along. Excellent!

You easily get a 5/5 in my book, but I can see also that Rashad has given you some good suggestions as to how this scene might be modified. I would't say necessarily improved - it works very well already, but it wouldn't hurt to experiment?

Thanks Rashadcarter1 for your kind comments. I've been experimenting with different wood textures and lighting but can't seem to get anything I really like. I have tried IBL but can never get good results, probably because the render time is so long I get impatient and try something a bit quicker.

Thanks David for your kind comments too. I do appreciate all comments and suggestions.
