Wee Hours
Description: I hate pushing off others from the front page, I therefore assembled four images into one. The architecture is the same as for http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=5097 but on the lower level. On the upper half, two different angles and on the lower half the respective anaglyphs rendered directly in Bryce using the ALST+. These models from Stonemason have no window cuts, the bright windows are UV maps on the facade. On the first (left) shot, I put a mirror in front of the buildings to hide the bright windows and make the street longer. There are two Victoria 3 waiting in vain for customers at this time of day.

Lit by 138 spots with edge softness and soft shadows, rendered premium at 16 rpp. There is a radial at the stairs to the subway that lights up the building a bit. A radial without falloff and shadow casting at the camera position brightens up things a bit. For the anaglyphs, the light intensity was doubled to compensate for the goggles. The left one renders as 1600 x 1200 (here 960 x 720) in 1-1/2 hours (normal priority), the right one in half that time. The anaglyphs have no soft shadows, normal rendered and needed 2/3 of the respective render times.

Fantastic renders! Of course Stonemason's models are a great starting point, but your lighting really brings them to life. Even the 2D ones look 3D! The 3D ones, when viewed correctly through the 3D glasses are outstanding - or should that be "instanding"? Anyway I can't offer anything more than praise and 5/5. I can't find anything to criticise, even after a bit of a think... Good work.

Thank you! I've worked more than a week on and off, I'm quite happy with the outcome but not completely satisfied. I like to take such ready scenes so I can concentrate on the lighting, which I think is paramount in visual art and I have still a lot to learn about.

138 spots. You are rather a patient man, I presume. But the result is outstanding. Really one of my favourite city scene made by Bryce. In the first scene I especially love the two skyscrapers that you hardly can see in the hazy distance. This and the mirror "trick" give the scene an impressing depth. Surely 5 of 5.
Unfortunately I have no green/red-glasses at hand.

Really amazing Horo, the level of detail you have achieved with the lighting is impressive and the 3D looks quite good.

Apologies for the late response. I really like both of the natural renders. Still dont have the glasses to appreciate the others, so I cant really comment. I do wonder what this Vickie is doing on this abandoned street corner late at night? Ah, I'm sure she's waiting for the bus!

"Wish you were here" as they say. How did I miss this one, a late comment too but I couldn't resist :)

Good job and perseverance pay off. Results speak for themselves. I love your lighting, really. I cannot fault it in any way. The anaglyph pulls the viewer right in from the start. Very nice.
