A stiff breeze
Description: Captain Lightfoot was frowning and took a pull on his rum bottle: "These cliffs are almost over-hanging and barely accessible. And the cloud in the background does not promise much good."

The boat is from Chris34 (ShareCG.com). The textures of the cliffs and the water are from the Bryce 7.1 Pro library (by David B.)
I am still not quiet happy with the foam. Render time about 1 hour and 5 minutes

Looks amazing. I assume the lighting is IBL? The water looks fantastic, the boat, everything is amazing.

Fantastic setup, the towering and overhanging rockwall and the cumulus clouds really threaten the the boat. Very dramatic, indeed. David's Lincolnshire Wolds material is one of my favorites. However, here I would have rather expected grey granite. Perhaps this is because I see it as an upcomming föhn-storm on Urnersee. Whatever, full marks in any case. Awsome artwork.

Thank you for your kind comments.
@Rashad: No, there is no IBL. There are 3 more light sources, a distant light with a diffuse of -2 to accent the shadows on the cliff, a dome light around the sailboat to brighten it and a dome light around the volumetric cloud too give it a more blueish appearance.
@Horo: I love David's Lincolnshire Wolds too. But in my imagination, this cliff is not on Urnersee, rather on a northern coast. It is mossy and full of slimy algae and of other things of which we do not want to know exactly what they are. :-)

Ah, light domes were used. I knew it had to be some sort of cluster light formation. IBL and Domes can appear quite similar. Great use of Light Domes here. Bravo!

Yes, it's one of my habits that I automatically link natural renders to scenes I've seen or am familiar with. I ought to get more distance to what is in my memory and look at the artwork in a more relaxed fashion.

Clouds turned out excellent. It is the sphere with a volume material?

@slepalex: Exactly. IMHO the simplest way to use volumetric clouds in certain cases.

@Horo: I think you are very relaxed nearly all the time. ;-)

Eye catching scene, the structure of the cliff is particularly attractive, perhaps some kind of curvature response in the material would work to emphasise this? Of course the terrain would have to be set to maximum resolution to overcome the smoothing issues with curvature but it may still be worth experimenting with. Good work, great lighting!

@Thank you for your suggestion. I will give it a try. (It a good reason to struggle with the DTE, too ;-)

I faced one problem with the terrains of the cliff. There are actually 2 terrains and most of the terrain texture which come with Bryce 7.1 did not give a believable transition from one to the other terrains. "Lincolnshire Wolds" did it.
