Villa Comparison
Description: In response to:

My buddy Waleed and I have been talking via emails about the lighting he uses in his awesome architecture. He was kind enough to send me a copy of his Villa for my lighting advice. Above is a quick side by side comparison.

It is important to note that the revised version does not look worlds different than the original.

Generally, I'd say the problem with the original is the same for most people...there is a lack of indirect lighting. The good thing is that he has not fried the scene in overused ambience. Bravo on that, though some ambience was indeed used it was not overused. But now he is left to try to light the scene almost exclusively with the sun.

For example, the original has a very low sun altitude, you can see this by the direction of the shadows it casts. I get the feeling the author was intending to create a bright daytime scenario so he aimed the sun directly at the building to give it brightness. I suspect this was done to make up for the lack of indirect lighting from other sources.

The Revised version is lit with the EarthGlow Dome Light Strategy, a highly technical but accurate fake GI system. Because the Domes give me the indirect light I need, I am free to place the sun back up to a high altitude where it belongs.

I will go into greater detail if anyone desires to know more.

Again, thanks to Waleed for letting me play with his scenario.
