Mishmash Mountain Sunset Rise
Mishmash Mountain Sunset Rise

Mishmash Mountain Sunset Rise
Description: A dicey bit of mix and matching. Horo's Sanetsch backdrop under prerendered - volumetric clouds mapped onto the inside of a sphere outside the masked mountains.

A Bryce generated HDRI boosts the sun as a backdrop and provides some ambient light - which in turn is backed up by a secondary light lined up with the visible sun.

Bryce terrain and a couple of stones in the foreground draw attention away from the 180 lighting wrong on the mountains - which are tinted using the ambient channel.

Does it work or is it a cobble job too far?

Modest render time in 7.1 pro of two minutes.

The backdrop got a bit flat, but it is not an issue. It gives this some surrealistic touch. The foreground is awsome. It reminds me of some paintins of Mars by Ludek Pesek. Just a bit more saturated orange here. Light and shadows are very dramatic. Full marks.

Fantastic colors! Reminiscent an extraterrestrial surrealistic landscape.

Thanks Horo, Alexey. Yeah it's a funny one this, I still can't decide if I really like it or not.

I like it !, the detail in the landscape looks great, i agree with Horo it has kind of Mars'ish look to it, the sun almost looks like an explosion on the other side of the hill as if mabey a meteor has just slammed into it.

I looked at the image before I looked at the description. Yes, the mountains do seem to be lit the wrong way. still the image feels dramatic and plausible. You really make shadow catching look so easy.

Thanks Stephen, Rashad, more dramatic than plausible then. Making the sun really bright is the trick, I'm going to cover this in a video and wrap it up in P36 along with this scene and a few others.
