The long way home
Description: Byryce 7.1 pro, Deep Space HDRI 04, Victoria, Paintshop photo pro X3

Of all the renders i have done this one seemed for me at least the most challenging, usualy i have a lot going on,but in this render there is only one object, I am not a modeler but think i did Ok with this one, There are 7 radial lights in this render, 3 on the beacons (one you can't see), one inside, one at the back and two used as negitive lights to create shadows, It was rendered as Super 16 , AA set at 244 with soft shadows and TA. The starburst and lens flare was added using Paintshop photopro X3. Render time was 90 minutes.

Oh, the model is great. I'm a terrible modeller, if more than two cubes are needed, I'm already over-challenged. The backdrop looks great and fitting. Very nice space scene.

Horo - thank you
Waleed- Thank you for your comments, yes you are correct in space the light would be bright as you suggest, on the left the colors are a bit hazy but this was an artistic choice by me, the starkness between the front and back had i made it bright would not be pleasing to look at and there would be no flow to the render, knowing that i would be doing postwork i made it that way on purpose, I added the starburst and lensflare during postwork, this gives it an apperance of looking through a lens witch would acount for some of the haze to the left as light passes through it at an angel.
Thanks again.

Thank you Rashad.

Waleed, The monitors that each of us use's plays a big part in what we see, i know this to be true, I am using a 32 inch Toshiba HDLCD, it is a very bright monitor, so bright in fact that i used to darken my renders so that they looked correct on my monitor, This had the unfortunate effect of making my renders very dark on normal monitors, because of this i check my renders on three other monitors before i post ( one is an old 25 inch RGB tube monitor that sounds like an old X ray machine when turning it on). Perhaps your monitor is like mine ?, Try looking at it using a different monitor

Regards

Stkydd, I use a high contrast monitor as well so I see plenty of depth even with the haze in the backdrop.

Waleed,

You are making great points and I agree with them 100%. The haze you see in the scene is actually baked into the hdri backdrop, Stkydd did not add any additional haze. When David was first developing the Deep Space Hdri product to sell at Daz3d he showed me some of the previews and I told him the same thing you are saying, that the haze does not really fit the outer space environment. However, we determined that the haziness helps translate the sense of scale and distance, even though it probably should not be there for realism sake. So in a nutshell, I agree with you.Still, I think that Stkydd has made great choices working with this particular hdri set.

Good render. I think that if to take the real picture in space, the picture will be inexpressive, contrast and with a black background. It will be interesting to nobody. :)
It is an artwork and here the haze and soft light is pertinent.

Awesome image! =O

Just saw this...

What haze? Do you mean the galaxy?

I'm looking at it on a very low end monitor...the galaxy is probably much brighter than it would be in reality, but I like it very much.

Sci-Fi gives you creative license. =)
