Vase and jug
Vase and jug

Vase and jug
Description: Bryce 7.1 Pro, Sculptris.

Render Normal AA. Time about 5 hours.

The jug and plate are made from metaballs. Converting to mesh, export on a disk, import in Bryce.
Wall with a niche and a plant (too converting to mesh, export on a disk, import in Bryce) from terrains.
For the body of mandarin I has rumpled sphere in Sculptris. Vase - a symmetrical lattice. The rest - from primitives.
All textures is procedural, except foliage.
On a jug and a plate polygons are visible; they badly smooth out, if the object is made from metaballs. I did not bother about it. It can will anger fans of polygonal modeling and adherents of advanced 3D programs? :)

The illumination scheme.
The scene is in the open air. The sunlight is disabled. For simulation an ambient light illumination in a room it is created three arrays from Sphere Dome Light with nine sources in each (squares with sides 3x3).

The first array is behind the back of the photographer opposite to a wall. The second is to the right of a scene and simulates a diffused light from an imaginary window. Parameters of these sources are that: Diffuse and Specular 10, gradient as default (Range 200, Offset 0), a mode of falloff Linear, the rest - by default.

The third shines on a scene from above. Parameters: Diffuse and Specular 2, the default gradient is inverted (Range 500, Offset 0), a mode of falloff Linear, the rest - by default.

On the right also is Parallel Light which shines on a scene and simulates sun light. It has a gel texture in the form of a lattice, soft shadows of 10 % and soft edges of 10 %, Diffuse and Specular 3, a mode of falloff None, the rest - by default.

Scene scale: 1 BU = 1 cm.

For me, a still life is always difficult. They very often look boring even though they are nicely done. You're a master of still lifes, yours are never boring. It is a pleasure to look at them. This scene looks so simple but is so full of details. How could I leave this picture without giving you top marks? There's nothing that could be improved.

Thanks Horo, thanks Waleed.
The table texture is procedural, made in DTE. I could apply a phototexture to bigger realism, but it would be not so interesting and fascinating.

Waleed, I understood your thought, but you didn't understand mine. I could create model in 3ds MAX, prepare a phototexture in the Photoshop, make UV mapping and insert ready model into Bryce. But it isn't INTERESTING to me! It is interesting to me to make from beginning to end everything in Bryce! I am an amateur. I don't buy programs and a content, I don't sell the models and pictures.
Working in Bryce, I have a rest! I earn money in a different way.
Certainly, I resort sometimes to modeling in other programs and texturing in Photo Paint. Here examples

Phototextures look is more realistic, but whether is it the purpose of the artist?
Whether the wood texture in Bryce turned out at me it is other question...

I really respect your choice to use Bryce procedurals for these materials. This is a great challenge and a rewarding one I can see. I often employ photos myself but sometimes I wish I could do more with the DTE. My favorite is the vase.

Why to apologize, Waleed?!
You are right that photo-textures look is more realistic. I simply stated my position concerning research of possibilities of the Bryce program. I work many years in this program and always I open the new and hidden possibilities of Bryce. So I was interested to create a texture in the DTE.
