Pizza Time
Description: The pizza, cutlery and wine glass are from DAZ3D; the Utah Teapot is a classic. The environment is one of the latest HDRI I made and I used the 6400 pixel diameter probe. It lits the scene exclusively. On the table is a shadow catcher and above a negative light to create the shadows and make the objects appear on the table.

Actually, all the objects are floating and this could be seen in the mirror ball. So I took a candle out of David's Yuletide_still_life to cover the give away.

That's cool! I like that very much. I wish I had your ability to make HDRI photos.
The only little flaw I could mention, the inserted objects are a bit too sharp. On the preview pictures they look even more realistic. I am not sure, but I would try a bit of DOF.
Please forgive my question, what is a shadow catcher? But all in all great: Full marks.

Thank you, electro-elvis. The slightly blurred backdrop is an issue.

Shadow catcher (or capture): The HDRI is a sphere of "infinite" size and the objects just float within. Without shadows, the objects also look floating without shadows on the surface they are placed on.

So you set a 2D Face onto which you place the objects and shadows appear on the 2D Face. Unfortunately, the part of the HDRI backdrop below it gets obscured. So you make this 2D Face transparent and the backdrop re-appears but the shadows get lost.

Now use a parallel light with infinite width and position it above or below the 2D Face. Set the light negative and only include the 2D Face and you get both, backdrop and shadows. With Diffusion of the 2D Face, Diffuse of the negative light and HDRI-Effect you balance the light until everything matches.

There is a video about it on the Mentoring DVD, I don't think it is on YouTube or Vimeo. There are also two products by David with example files how to do this: https://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=11585 and https://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=11704 these can be of help.

I, too little idea of what "shadow catcher". Especially in Bryce. This is an invisible plane, which displays only the shadows?

Horo, David is right calling You Sen-God of Bryce:). Great picture. Your experiments with HDRI and deeps of Bryce are just amazing. The little thing here I can see is that background is a bit blurred, but vase is sharp, if it was a bit blurred too then it would fit perfectly here. Anyway GREAT job on this!

Thank you all for your kind comments. Yes, if the vase were just a bit blurred, that would help a lot.

Well, most has been said, Im late here with my comment. I'll just add how impressed I am with the size of the hdr probe. Oh, and the pizza texture is right on, very neat, plus, the candle looks translucent! I miss some bump to bring a volume to the ingredients. Aside of that, good work.
