Happy New Dragon!
Happy New Dragon!

Happy New Dragon!
Description: First, to start with, I?d want to congratulate everyone on New Year and wish good luck.
Frankly speaking, I?ve been following bryce5.com, but only now have decided to follow my Russian-language site bryce.3dn.ru colleague Stepalex and also upload some of my works.

This image is one of my recent works. I tried to model organics here using only Bryce tools. The dragon is made from meatballs and also of some number symmetrical lattices and terrains, which were exported as *.obj files and afterwards imported back in Bryce. All the dragon?s body parts are correctly linked. So, in case I ever have some more free time I?ll maybe make this scene animation. The city below is mainly made from cubes. All the textures used here are merely procedural.

Actually, it?s necessary to note that I don?t consider myself an artist, but I find it interesting to make experiments, thus, while creating a picture I consciously restrict myself to use only Bryce tools without importing anything from other 3D software or using bitmap textures. Provided I didn?t limit myself by the restrictions my images could have looked better and/or more realistic. BUT it?s not the point of my interest, and second, if I want to make something photorealistic I would use some of unbiased renderers (Maxwell, LuxRender, Octane etc.) but not Bryce for this purpose. Also, for modeling Bryce is not the best choice? and this makes it more challenging to think over how to avoid Bryce?s limits and restrictions and find a way to model something using the Bryce original tools. Because of aforementioned reasons I never use postproduction. If in need of any PREproduction I use only simple and free software like standard Windows Paint or IrfanView.

Before uploading my other recent works I?d like to share some of my old pictures made rather long ago in former Bryce versions (I started to work in Bryce beginning with version Bryce3D). Some of this works are of interest for me in some aspects even now. That?s why I?ve re-rendered during a couple of latest years some of my old works in bigger resolutions virtually not changing anything. If you don?t mind I?d upload some of these my old works first.

This is fantastic modeling. Honestly, that dragon is superb. The wings have a nice tattered appearance. I think that the bones of the wings need to be more in tact and a bit less tattered, but the skin of the wings indeed looks just as it should. The materials used on the dragon are superb as well. Very good job!

A very warm welcome to these galleries, Sam. I'm absolutely amazed at the dragon, modeled in Bryce. The blocks are also outstanding, the whole city is. You are certainly one who has mastered many aspects of Bryce. I cannot find anything that could be improved upon. So it must be 5/5.

That dragon is awsome, to me it has an almost oriental flair to it, well done.
