Thats very cool, the animation came out great, i played around with Blender before i found Bryce, after watching your movie i think i might start playing around with it again.

The basic simulation is very easy to do....I'm just playing with lighting, camera position, and materials.
Haven't tried creating obstacles yet (e.g. like boulders in a river) or impacts (like meteors).
Blender Internal renders surprisingly quickly....3-10 sec per frame even for fluid simulations.
Here is the same anim but the light is coming from above & in front (vs in back) of the cube. version 2
