Very nicely designed interior, the colour choices work well, my only qualm would be the carpet seems a little bit "bright" almost as if it is glowing (or possibly that's just because I can never get anything clean in my house - I blame the dog).

I'm really confused, you say the carpet is bright, on my computer it looks fine. There is one spot that is a bit brighter and that is caused from the ceiling light. I've tried looking at this from several different angles on my moniter and it still doesn't look bright. You should have seen it before I toned it down a little.
I blame my cat.

I also tried getting shadows in this scene, but it never seems to work.

Good point, yes I think it is probably the lack of shadows under the table that gave me that impression. Still it's clean and without holes, two things that can't be said of my front room carpet.

So you made another indoor. Very nice and full of details. Nice laptop but it is not rendering a scene ;) Lighting looks good to me for a room, rug as well, but I miss the shadows. It's perhaps also a question of personal preferences but shadows in your scenes are often a bit shallow and here I can't see any. Shadow intensity in the sky lab is a master shadow control, if it is low, all shadows will be low, no matter how high you set them for the lights.

I'd say you have gone about as far as one can go in terms of simple lighting in Bryce. To get to the next stage of realism will mean using more advanced methods especially in terms of indirect lighting.

For interiors, make sure your Skydome color is black, Skydome is a bit of a hack lighting feature, for many reasons, but mostly, because it does not cast shadows thus bleeding through everything.

As far as the way that the scene has been set up, it is beyond excellent. I would love to get a hold of this file, throw some more advanced lighting at it, and see how it looks. Excellent arranging, top notch. Keep it up!

There is a lack of shadows under objects and needed an additional source of weak light from the camera to create the illusion of GI.
And the work has been done very much.
