Description: Victoria 3 and 4.2, Aiko 3 and Michael 4 are from DAZ3D. The architecture - The Streets of Asia, is a model from Stonemason purchased at DAZ. The backdrop is the non-tone-mapped HDRI Tower from the upcoming Tourbillion series. This HDRI lights the scene. A parallel light brightens up the shadows.

There are two issues: due to the narrow FOV, the hi-res HDRI is still too small be rendered fully sharp in this size. And there is shadow banding obvious at right which even Quality 4096 could not blur. Using soft IBL shadows took too long to render because I have yet other projects running at the moment and time is scarce. I hope you enjoy it nevertheless.

wishing to make something just a little bit like this

Very circumstanced work. I like very much the ambience, the light, composition and dusty textures!
This is fine art!
Only one: girl with orange pants: for me she looks like a lego puppet, or not? Maybe it doesn't matter!

Interesting study. Too bad that it is not possible to apply a 20,000x20,000 pixel image to get a crisp backdrop.

The shadow banding is a vexing problem. I assume that this hdri has a bright spot, an area where the real sun was captured or something? There appears to be a "key" light in the hdri. At quality 4096 (which is in fact 6144 lights) should have been enough to smooth out the banding. The algorithm that determines the light positions has a hard time with bright spots.

A setting of 16 produces 24 hotspots, roughly 150% what I would have expected. I assume this is true at all quality setting hence my statement above.

Anyhow, avoiding the bands of point lights is a main reason why I like using TA to interpret the hdri provided Boost light is enabled to preserve the full dynamic range. No banding. But then there is noise to contend with.

Thank you for your kind comments.

Rashad, here a 4500 diameter probe would have sufficed. It is indeed a pity Bryce is not yet a 64-bit application that can handle larger light probes plus large models. TA - well, I've tried that. It looked completely flat, like on a completely overcast day. The only remedy for the shadow banding would have been soft IBL shadows, which I've tried but abandoned because of the time involved.

This is why I keep going on about Boost Light. That overcast look will not happen if Boost Light is enabled, because the "cap" is lifted allowing much greater levels of contrast. The noise is the drawback but depending on the scene it might not be too noticeable.

Instantly one of my favourite images on this site! My only reservation, as mentioned above by celart, the girl in the orange trousers, her pose looks a bit odd.

Thank you for your kind comments. Ah, Aiko's pose. Well, she does look funny from this angle, I agree. Since I'm such a nut in posing, I use and re-use earlier labour. This is the same Aiko: http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=4583
http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=4125
and it obvously doesn't work out as well here as the others.
