Water and reflections was pleasant. Illumination with HDRI too the realistic.
This experiment has tried. Anything good it has not turned out. :)

Well, it was worth your struggle. This method obviously gives excellent control over the material since material and height map are equal (to some extent). I'd like to see a canoe on the water - just to give this a focus. Lighting and haze, by the way, look very natural.

This is a very impressive artwork not because of its technical approch.

This picture look very realistic. The sky is photoreal and the water to. The terrain texture is perfect but this land need some vegetation (maybe some wild threes have been welcome).

I just wonder if you've use T.A mode here?

Fullmarks david.

Thanks c-ram, the light is provided by Bryce sun and internally generated hdr. The hdr has been added back to the sky to give it a bit of "glow" and the saturation has been set down to avoid the shadows turning too blue.

You are probably correct about the need for vegetation... But by the same token I like the challenge of making a nice picture with so few components. Like you say though, a few wild bare trees would not go amiss... but then again, I'm so tired of the Bryce trees and their strange lumpy trunk... I'd need to import a tree from DS and that is - as far as I am concerned - like attempting rocket science.

I agree with you. Bryce threes are often "ugly". I've got some xfrog plants that would fit well for this scene (what about some olive trees with crooked trunks?). Just tell me and i'll send it to you.
