Sorry to be blunt David but, from my point of vue, i find this creation far from your standard.. Just joking here : you'll have a lot of good comments by exposing it at renderosity/bryce gallery!^_^!

Occasionally I find the need to remind people I'm an artist not just a technician. The influence here, not only literary but also Edvard Munch. I wanted to invest a bit more emotional content than I usually trouble myself with. The difficulty then becomes one of art interpretation. Which is easy when realism is the intention, but for other things, it gets a bit more tricky.

I like the color of the sky. But to tell you the truth, it didn't remind me of Edvard Munch, but rather at the long psychodelic sequence towards the end of Kubrick's "Odyssey 2001" ;-)
BTW Sometimes I wonder why I myself have the strong urge to make pictures with Bryce, they look as natural as possible and do not use the power and the possibilities of a virtual 3D-generator which lead beyond the "limitation" of nature. (I am afraid I have just reached the limitation of my english knowledges. At least, I hope, my jabbering makes a little bit of sense ;-)

Thank you Electro-elvis. I have no objection to the comparison you draw - the sequence at the end of the film is one of the most memorable parts along with the phrase I often find repeating to myself when doing something that might be considered dangerous...

Making "realistic" imagery is a more of a technical challenge than an artistic one. It is easy to defend your choices and respond to criticism. Things get a bit more "slippery" with more imaginative subjects because there is perhaps more of a suspicion that the choices made were dictated by the limitations of the artist in his media rather than the limitations of the artists imagination.

I hope by now that you trust me enough to know that what you see in this image is exactly what I wanted you to see and not the product of my not being able to produce the desired result.

Since I know Horo has read (and enjoyed) the Chronicles I look forwards to the possibility of his comment on this subject.

It is true that this could be the result of some experiments from a Bryce newbee. If David says it came out the way he wanted it to then this means he was able to control the tool to serve his purposes. This is something I not very often achieve.

This could also be said about many paintings that look as if I child smeared some colours on a canvas or sheet of paper. If the artist had the result in mind, it is a different story.

As for what is depicted, I think David hit the nail on his head. My imagination works differently and I have different pictures in my mind but I can associate this artwork to the second chronicles with the sunbane.

Oh - I didn't read the title. Yes, Ridjeck Thome, that could be it.

Thinking about it, there might be some kind of surface structure there... Mostly though the villains of the piece favour being ensconced underground. For anyone who does not know the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Land where they are mostly set has an extra dimension of perception "health sense" which allows the people to see into the true nature of things. And when things are wrong, they are described as being grossly wrong in ways that are somewhat defiant of normal description. Stephen Donaldson, the author, seems to delight in growing his vocabulary and they are what I would call casual reading.

Not the most cosmetically appealing image, but still impressive for how strange it is. The detail int he clouds and the terrain tell me it is done by a very well understood Bryce user. Cool
