We need to see the animation to fully appreciate what you've done here. Very cool.

Thanks Horo.=)

The 1953 movie has been an obsession for me, and is what really got me seriously interested in 3D.

The ships were modeled in Hexagon, but everything else is done in Carrara7Pro.

Hope to do something similar in Bryce....stills if not animation.

I was only 8 when I saw this movie and it has haunted me ever since. I guess I'm facing my fears.

But it still gives me goosebumps, and makes me want to hide! =O

Still need to refine the shape and find a way to make the green nose and wingtips like the original...using shading domains, but am stuck by following the polys. Maybe I need to add more polys to refine it (?)

BTW, in case anyone wondered where I got the alien sky, it's an image I took at work through a microscope of a fluorescent stain for TB....the stain iis negative for Acid Fast Bacillus (i.e.TB), but makes a cool sky. =)

Fun animation! I too have always loved 'War of the Worlds'. Good models and the landscape is very well done.

Very cool sky, and now that I know how you got it, it is even better! Great idea.

Thanks, Connor! =) It's still a WIP.

still not satisfied with the ships yet...it's been the most challenging shape to model....I've come the closest in Hexagon; tried in C4D, but just couldn't get it right.

Want to articulate the neck better, too.

I'll put up some other attempts I've made.

Nice model! I see you've learned about shading domains for the luminous corners. It remints me of when I was doing my Vorlon cruiser with the luminous effect on the inside surface of the engine 'petals' (I've always assumed they were free Hydrogen collectors but they're really to small to be effective for that). Now you've got me thinking I should fire up Carrara 8 Pro and start a new modeling project. LOL

Anyway, Nice sky and when I finally see the animation I'll post a quick review. I have to go lie down now. OUCH!

Thanks! =) Was just telling a fried at work yesterday about the amazing images and animations of yours.

re: luminous corners...need to find a way to make them not look "cut in", but had to follow the polys.

Tried to paint them on, but didn't look right.

I'm always looking for potential skies or terrains
when I do microscopy at the hospital....the images
can be very alien looking.
