Doomed Planet
Description: Hey all! Its been a long time. This is the first picture I've made in a while (that I liked). It started out as just a photoshop project but decided to put it into Bryce to add the ships. The large planet (Earth) is a photo. Everything else I made in photoshop. Ships are Bryce made.

The exploding planet is a combination of these two planets (the two big ones) http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=3020&mode=search

When I put the background in Bryce to render it got a bit darker and lost some of the color. I do not know how to fix that so here is a version just with photoshop.

Comments and suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

Edit: just realized that this should probably be in 'Unrelated Programs' not space. Sorry.

Spacecraft well received.
Colors here I am even more pleased than in Photoshop.
I note, however, that all the atmospheric effects (explosions, etc.) can be done entirely in Bryce.

Thank you.

I am sure that it can all be done in Bryce, however I have always been pretty bad at texturing and doing atmospheric/ volumetric stuff in Bryce.

I also like this one more than the Photoshop one. But that's a question of taste.

To use a picture as backdrrop, there are a few things you should observe and experiment with. I assume the picture is on a 2D face. De-select Cast, Receive and self Shadows in the Material Options in the Mat Lab.

Use the material in the Diffuse and Ambient channels. Set Diffusion to 100 and Ambient around 50. Make sure you have the Ambient colour in the Sky Lab fully white.

You can also place a spot below and in front of the 2D face and light it up. Bryce 7.1 has a square parallel light. Set it to Infinite Width. You can place it near the camera and shine it on the 2D face. Either exclude all objects or only include the 2D face with the picture. So the light will only affect the picture in the background.

Just a few ideas.

I like the color of the explosion and the ships in this version however the stars, rings, and exploding planet texture I like in the other one. Going to do some editing later on.

Horo: Your ideas are very helpful, as usual. I haven't played around with Bryce 7 much yet. I like how you can exclude objects from the lights. I will hopefully have a new version up soon.

YIKES!!!! It's 2012!!!! Run for your lives! . . . On second thought that won't do much good, will it?

Oh well. I guess all we can do is put our heads between our legs and kiss it goodbye. :-(

Actually, I wonder if a flattened semi-transparent hemisphere can be adapted to simulate a convincing shockwave. That would give some real 'punch' to the impact. No?
;-)
