Alien World
Description: Ok, here's a scene for you. Anymore Gothic than this and you'd be better going to someone who paints their fingernails black and fantasises about drinking human blood. Needless to say I am a big fan of the Aliens films and the work of H.R. Geiger - even though I feel he got a bit overexposed in that genre. And yes Aliens was the best film of the bunch and the forth one was barrel scrapingly bad.

Fog

The fog sets the scene for the entire work. It gives it the mood very nice. And .... is the terrain just one, or its spliced, or sculpted. Very nice.

Terrain

Just the one terrain, fractal generated, "Mordor". The material used on it gives it the illusion of being more complex than it really is - and that was adapted from the one I put together for my monster skin in "the pit" image. Bumpmapping again I'm afraid.

Fog

Nothing complicated, just strait bryce fog - if you look on page 243 of your manual you will see the fog height/fog colour window - in this case I chose a light green grey for the colour and lifted the fog till it was visible in the terrain and then thinned it out till it was nearly invisible again - just leaving the pools.
