My First Bryce Image
Description: *Large text post alert*

Well, after a long time away from bryce5.com I've finally decided to post once again. It's been fun watching the images on the site progress, looking more and more realistic as they go (esp. after HDRI was introduced into Bryce). It's almost nostalgic looking back at those old and early images from the site's history, like traveling back in time. But enough about that... The reason I'm posting this image is because I was lucky enough to still have it. I don't know if any of you still have your first image, but I'd be very interested in seeing what everyone else did the first second they started up Bryce.

Well, now that I'm in nostalgia land I feel like telling my first Bryce experience. Sorry for the massively long text post, but here it is.

I was walking through a Comp USA. Do they even still exist? And I always searched through the games and software section. I think I was in 8th grade at the time and a certain CG program caught my attention. I don't think I'd ever really seen a program like this and it looked just so cool, like a roller coaster creator but with infinitely more freedom. I asked my mom if I could buy it and luckily the answer was yes. Well it was Bryce 5. I'd never even heard of Bryce before yet it was already in it's 5th stage! Back then it was still owned by Corel, until the switch to DAZ which instantly seemed to bump up awareness and popularity for it (taking it all the wa yup to the current Bryce 7). But anyway, I popped it into the computer, installed it, and was ready to go. "What do I do? Lemme click this water thingy. Oh cool, I just made an ocean! Lemme click the dirt thingy next to it. Oh cool, I just covered the ocean with grass. Oh hey, here's a mountain button. Now let's add some trees." Well I then figured out how to move the objects and TADA! My first Bryce image! At that time I thought it was the most beautiful work of art, and I instantly was hooked. I could now create worlds any way I liked and visit lands I could never see... I could travel to the darkest depths of a cave, soar across mountain ranges, or even dive to the bottom of an ocean... I was finally introduced to the amazing realm of CG and Bryce was what started it all. :)

Hey thellamamaster - nice to see you back here! I've never published my first click-click Bryce image but I used it for the Save Bryce Petition Ultra-Mini Contest and - surprise - won the contest with it: http://www.bryce5.com/details.php?image_id=672

As you've already mentioned, we've seen a lot of improvement in the quality of artwork over the last 6+ years. This is because we've learned by experimenting, we got a better Bryce and we've got constructive comments by our peers. The community here is exceptional compared to others. There's not only praise but also good meant critique that help enormously to improve. I'm convinced that our host, Nights4r, did more for Bryce with setting up and maintaining this site than many realise.

Nightst4r is awesome!

Yes, totally. Nightst4r is doing an amazing service for the Bryce community and the CG community in general. I was super lucky that after I bought Bryce I tried typing in the url: bryce5.com and found the site. It is one of the best critiquing communities I've seen. No one really slams work, even if it's not that great (like some of my first images), they just provide sincerely helpful comments. Also, this site introduced me to so many other sites like DAZ 3D and stuff. Keep up the good work Nightst4r.

P.S. Horo, you did an awesome job on you're first Bryce image! You even changed the default blue sky! hehe :)
