SSS experiment jade dragon
Description: Bryce 7.1 beta render

For the benifit of Bryce beta testers here's the link https://bugs.daz3d.com/view.php?id=39434 and a modified source with a distributable model is avalable from the DAZ beta FTP in my folder.

For those without access, two models are employed, slightly staggered, the skin of the closest model uses blurred transmission for scattering and the second model uses volume material as an absorber to mop up rays that wander too deeply into the heart of the mesh. That means the rays that penitrate the models tend to be those closest to the skin. SSS being Sub Surface Scattering, being the general idea. I think it sort of works too.

This render features a one time free model from DAZ + One of Horo's hdr's for secondary lighting.

Fantastic david! I never though that it'll be possible to render sub surface scattering with Bryce...

Superb demonstration but render time must be longer than longer here? No doubt a new 5/5.

Aye, thank you, yes, because the rays have to go through two models and perform premium effects with volumetric materials - it is not the most nible renders. But the purpose was to prove it was at least possible. Others will determine if it is practical, that is not up to me.

David, I saw a preview for another effect SSS. This is in 3dsMax. But my Google-translator did not understand. This is a new option in Bryce 7.1, or special reception? As I understand it - these are two models (one inside the other) with different materials?
And turned out great!

This is in 3dsMax? No. Bryce 7.1 beta. Is this a new beta feature. No. It was put together by me as a feasability test. There is another version, one I can distribute, if you give me your email I will post you the source - that will explain better.

David. I meant: like 3dsMax like him. (Damn Google Translator!)
email display in Control Panel.
It is now clear this new feature in Bryce.

I think Google translator is letting you down again.

No it is not a new feature in Bryce.

I will try to keep my sentences simple for the translator.

It is a test. This could be done in earlier versions of Bryce.

Well, I've seen this before and I long for the time I can play with this idea of using slightly staggered copies with different material properties assigned.
Ten out of ten for thinking of this kind of setup to simulate SSS. Here, it looks very convincing. It's a 5/5, of course.
