Ice World - Dawn Patrol
Description: A different sky & hull material.

The sky was much more subdued until I
changed the frequency & amplitude...then
got the orange/blue gradient.

The hull is brushed bronze with 50% ambience.

Working on an animation.

I think I like these colours the best so far, but to be fair I'm taken with any of these blues. Not that I'm the right person to give advice on this topic, but have you considered animating the terrain height map?

re: animating the terrain?

Hi David,

didn't think of it yet, but thanks for the suggestion.
Do you mean scaling the terrain (eg y-axis) or changing the shape?

Also want to animate the sun to see the light & shadows play across the slopes, and through the
thinner parts of the ice.

Here's the full 21 sec animation:

1.5mb mp4
or
1.5mb mov

They both played the same in Firefox....didn't embed. Hope they work Ok (?)

Not sure if I got the sun's position right in the first half (?)....but wanted to show you the progress so far (~20hr total to render)

Pleasing colours. What we see here are not shadows but reflections. At least I think so after looking closely to the second part of the animation. From this series, I like this one most.

@Megacal. Changing shape. So far as I know. If start keframe has one terrain height map and at end keyframe a new height map is introduced (or the existing one changed) then Bryce will interpolate between the two states incrimentally. This apparently is how heaving seas are made. Nice animation, reminds me of flying minstrals. http://www.flickr.com/photos/44124434856@N01/50573036

"Pleasing colours. What we see here are not shadows but reflections."

Hi Horo, thanks! =) Yes, they are reflections...vs
the first one, Ice World Explorers and the hard shadow you pointed out. I think I like reflections better. But will soften shadows when possible. =)

"Simple but wonderful work here!"
Thanks Rashad! =)
I tend to lean towards "simple" to let the eye see the details in the terrain, skies or material/textures.

I'm getting a lot of good info from the Bryce5 User Manual, as well as Real World Bryce 4.

Not to mention the great feedback & suggestions from you all...very appreciated. =)

Many things I want to try yet with this scene...
camera angles, skies, hull materials, animations.

Will try not to be (too) redundant, but build on
it with new images that are still interesting and
thought provoking, or at least pleasing to the eye.
