Instancing and TA2 (Bryce 7 pro)
Description: Another experiment with IL and TA. Similar setup to before but this time I've pushed the contrast a little bit further. About an hour to render. So not quick, but still feasable, rpp 64 again.

Again, lighting looks very pleasing and realistic to me. This is a very nice setup, too. Obviously, the river is swollen over its usual height considering the flooded trees. The IL is certainly awkward to use. There are tree roots visible where they should not. Not a critique, just an observation.

Horo, you are generous to consider the river swollen, but the truth is that for this and the tree roots, the same issue afflicts me, once the instances are drawn Bryce becomes such a slovernly beast that I can bearly make any modifications. That and the tendency to crash once instances are in play, makes these a exercise in patience rather than skill. Anyhow, I'm glad you like the lighting, that was the object of this excercise.

Excellent work David. In particular the light, which so far seems reasonable. It does not strike me as realistic yet, but extremely pleasing. Somehow the TA seems to be miniaturizing the landscape... a predictable outcome of the tight TA reflections, which I will explain it further in time but you may already get the notion of what I am talking about.

The dark sky color you often employ will likely need to be boosted a bit to get a more natural daytime appearance. The indirect light is not bright enough to fully convey the bounced light one might expect during the daytime. We are descending into evening here a bit, but not so much that I might still expect more light.

Tip: Try clipping the terrain along the bottom before painting the instances onto it, this will remove the need to delete them later. Once you draw the instances, ungroup then regroup them so that they are no longer parented to the clipped terrain, for trying to unclip the terrain while the instances are still parented will result in a crash.

The trees are a good step in making your landscape more 3d, but trees are only one vegetation layer to consideration, some sort of ground level plant like a fern or grass or something also needs consideration, from a realism or naturalism standpoint. the procedurals are good for moss and starter grasses.
