Shaving brush
Description: I dont think I'll ever use bryce again, but I still frequent this gallery. This still life is based on an image by krickerd. What started as an overnight romp in mentalray turned into a 3 day long affair, which was fun. I didnt think 3ds max hair was up to it, but as I am no expert on it, I learned a few things. Also, trying to recreate the extreme fov of the table led to some perspective distortion on the brush itself, which if I had wanted to re-render I would have rotated and casted shadows on different plane. The piece was lit with 1 photometric rectangular light and 1 area light for bounced light, with 5 final gather bounces, all inside a big white box. I rendered it into elements (diffuse, specular, shadow, etc.) and postworked it gratuitously in photoshop.

I had a go with wings and Bryce, but your bristles have the edge. On the plus side, I did not employ postwork. Swings and roundabouts. I'm sorry to hear you do not think you will use Bryce again. Shame. Although, it is good to hear you will still frequent the gallery!

honored, good sir, you make bryce shine, also, on a pointless note, my floor texture is photoshop->render fibers->motion blur

Very good render, looking at the fine hairs. Very subtle pixelation.

I echo David. It's sad you think you won't use Bryce anymore. You're certainly missing a lot. On the plus side, you inspire us with your artwork here.

Looks great. The white part seems to be a bit glowy. otherwise, picture perfect. The red plastic is especially well done. Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!

Really, what am i missing?

Serious questions here

Does bryce have light linking? Like turning off shadow casting or illumination from certain lights on certain objects, also does it have light bounce and color bleed yet? And finally, can it do ambient occlusion?

You can find some answers here... http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=145803 and I've put five more video's in the pipeline that also address some of these questions in detail.

The short answers are, yes, yes and no. But the video's should make it easier to understand I hope!
