Coffee Break
Description: Testing out the new Dome Lights from Bryce 7 Pro. The backdrop is an hdri but it is used only as backdrop, all of the light is produced with Domes. One dome is enlarged and the scene is placed within that dome, which provides all of the indirect lighting. The second dome is used as the key or direct light source, it is smaller than the other dome, but it still gives soft shadows naturally. Feedback is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Just looking at the scene, it is superbly done. It is impeccable to the causual observer. But knowing how elaborately you set up the lights, I see some inconsistencies in the shadows. Even though there might be several strong light sources or an "area" light on the ceiling, plates and bowls are near together and should get about the same light. The shadows suggest that there are many invisible lights quite near the objects on the table. The first thing I observed was the difference of the softness of the shadows from the knife on the two sides.

Just picking, of course. The scene is beautiful, no doubt about it.

My godness!!!... one word to discribe this scene: stunnnnnnning!

I like the way you've work with the textures (the bread and the strawberries looks so real). Reflections increase the photorealistic aspect of the whole. For my part, I find that the shadow are very successful.

Without no doubt another proof that you are one of the greatest bryce artist.

Yeah, yeah, it's OK I s'pose...

No, your right, c-ram - it is absolutely amazing scene!

If I were to quibble, well, you would expect quibbling or there would be nothing to do except heap praise upon Rashad's worthy head until it was as big as a bucket. So let us quibble.

The bread and berries are a little bit "glossy" - or maybe "waxy" would be a better description. And everything is a little bit too clean - which probably says more about me than it does about this picture. All my pots are cracked and stained, from years of dishwashing. And everything is covered in a layer of animal hairs, due to - well - animals. This environment to me looks too sterile, but surely clean kitchens do exist somewhere out there and not just in fashion magazines.

5/5

Amazing! I realy like this image. I get hungry of it.

There is only one thing bothering me, and it taken me some time to figure out what it was. It is nitpicking, but it looks so good that it started to bother me. If you take a liquid, and pour it in a cup, it would have capillary effects at the edge and around the spoon. Your surface is nice shiny and flat, and looks a bit of because there is much reflection.

Now I'm of to find some strawberry's :p

Horo, Yes, I agree with your points. I think the key light is too low to the table, and this leads to what looks like sharp transitions between light and shadow. I could have used a higher quality setting for the key light as well. I also notice there are jaggies in the hdri backdrop, I need to read up on how to fix those errors. I should have blurred the image before converting it into an hdri I think.

c-ram, you are too darned kind. You just made my day!!!!!!!!!!

David, smarty pants! Yes, it is a bit sterile the whole thing. i was a bit generous with the reflection levels as well. The bread for me needed some specular, as I often see breads with what can appear as glazing over the parts that are more well cooked. The strawberries need some work too.

Boeken, Yes, I think you are correct. The liquids should have a meniscus as well as legs. Some steam or something would have been wise also.

Thanks for the comments guys and gals. I will work to improve.
