Living High
Description: This one took a looong time to create. I couldn't decide on what colors and textures to use. If you are wondering what that little room on the left is, it's a sauna, lol.

I used "Regular AA". I had problems with the time factor factor to render due to all the little lights all over the room. I just couldn't get the shadows the way I wanted them to appear. I have to work on that issue.

Stunning interior, good choice of materials, vibrant colours. You mention in your description the issue with the shadows. Under the chair on the right for example I would have expected to see some shadows - and in quite a few other places. But as I know from my own experiances, as the scenes get more complex overall controll tends to suffer as the old computer begins to grind to a halt.

Rashad would probably be able to advise better than I, my approach would be to tackle smaller more intimate lighting subjects and work my way up to larger projects when I had got to grips with the effect I was looking for. Never the less, having said that about the shadows, I still believe it is worthy of a 5.

The sauna room and bar look particulary good!

Thank you. Yes, there should have been more shadows. I worked quite awhile on the chair you mentioned. I tried small radial lights with settings at, intensity 4 and and Gradient at 40, then I tried to use a small spot light, but every try made the tiled floor way too bright. Yes, you are very correct about the complexity of a scene winding down the old cpu.

And thanks much for the 5. I really appreciate it.

This is another one of your beautiful interiors. Yes, the shadows. But then, if no artificial light is on at this time of day, the main light comes through the windows. Light is scattered all around. I just made a reality check around my place (which is not that nice) but there are indeed no deeper shadows under the chairs. I'd say the shadow onder the chair at right is natural (even though it doesn't look like it).

I see another "issue". The grill and chairs outside at left are on another platform. But from the angle with which we look at it, they appear to be on the sauna and bar. It's a question of perspective. The outside is very nicely done, the chopper a nice detail. And even the leaf colour of the philodendron at front right really looks good.

I like those small items, like the opened book, that make the room look inhabited. Fot me, this is a sure 5/5.

Arggh, Horo, I never even thought of those items looking like the are not on the upper deck. In my mind, I pictured them there without even giving thought to them looking like they are on top of the sauna and bar. My bad. I should have put something up there to show they are on the top deck. Aah, extending the upper deck would have helped.

And thank you Horo for pointing out the lighting and no shadows. I always thought I was going goofy attempting to put shadows in when the lighting is not there. Like you, in the past I have looked around my apartment for shadows and there were non without interior lighting somewhere.

I am very impressed with the sheer volume of visual information in this piece. Wow!

On the issue of shadows, to get a more natural look would require a different way of thinking of shadows. Art is often about exaggeration. In CG, sometimes you need more shading than in real life, just like actors might need to use more volume on stage than they would in their own homes. Soon I want to run a few experiments by you, but for now I would say you are definitely making obvious progress.
