Wow! Great render! It is almost photo-realistic. I think the time to render such an image would be looong on my machine (If I even imagine that I could create something like this:)

The faster the computer the greater the temptation to become lazy. On my 3.4ghz P4, this would have taken 10 hours to render. On my new i7 one hour.

I would not consider 10 hours an unreasonably long render time, some would. The longest render I've undertaken is 500 hours. This is small fry to what some animators go through I've learned.

Computing power is only one factor to achieve photo realistic renders. Overall quality of light is more imporant I've found. A good test is to look at the thumbnails of the scene under production and pick out the one which looks right at that scale. Details help, but if the overall impression is not realistic no ammount of detail will correct that.

I'm pleased you like it - even if you are not very keen on cars.

This is a beautiful picture. The car fits into the background perfectly.

Battles with bugs asside, the Bryce7 beta software offers some deceptively simple yet immensley powerful scene lighting optomisations. It is a shame the source for these scenes looks destined to be corrupted due to save/load issues, but this has not prevented me from experimenting. Integration in this case comes from use of DOF which has very little overhead on top of what is required for TA anyway (which is quite process greedy on its own).

This looks really very real. I'm particularly drawn to the very detailed foreground and the background with the haze. The vegetation is great, the bushes, and the water puddles a very nice detail. Is the foreground terrain really that wrong in scale? I remember having been at such places, alas the car was different: smaller and rusty.

The DOF seems to have improved the look of the vegitation considerably, taking the edge off the straight lines of the models (as the leaves are simple dimond shapes) fools the eye nicely into accepting them as nature. Likewise the DOF has pushed back the horizon. I've found DOF is exceedingly difficult to use for large scale scenes. For objects which are intended to look small DOF works a treat and is hard to do wrong, used on the intentionally large I find it is easy to give the impression that the view is wrongly scaled. Perhaps this is what is happening in the foreground? Whatever, I do not feel that the effect of the foreground is quite right, difficult to put my finger on exactly what is wrong, but something is off. Maybe it is that the ground is raised over the main surface on which the car sits? Since I generally use fewer elements in my scenes than most, I try to dedicate more time to getting them just right. Athough in this case, I'm not sure what is quite wrong, I just feel it is something to do with the foreground scale.

This is wonderful moody lighting. Once again the bright kick to the sunlight helps ground the scene in realism and makes the viewer respect the image. The blue skylight and orange color cast sunlight are a wonderful fire and ice type of combination. The backdrop is perfect looking.

One could find minor faults perhaps with some of the vegetation elements and scaling but why bother when it all looks quite natural overall. This is a sure 5ver as well.

Thank's Rashad. I'm amazed that no one has pointed out that I clearly have no idea what year I'm living in.
