Impressive. Especially considering it was done from scratch. The color scheme works very well here. The materials are excellent. Did you make your own or use presets? Though I think the water could stand to have less bump, but thats a matter of taste. Well done!

hi

Hi, I used preset textures, although they did have some tweaking...for example to get the right amount of transparency for the red to glow without being obviously lit. the mountains are a wet mud texture, which gives a nice wet look! I know what you mean about the water, I tried a couple of different presets and played around, this was the one I liked the most, but maybe I need to play some more. It took 6 hours to render too probably because there are so many reflections and ripples!

Like a scene from a movie of a dying planet or distant moon camp. Very good. love the glowing redness, looks almost like mushrooms

Very interesting scene. If you take presets, tweak them. For the water, rise transparency, decrease reflection, set refraction to around 133 and lower bump. In case you don't know: you can enter exact numbers in the fields, up to two decimal places, instead of pushing and pulling the sliders. If you've figured this out already, I apologise for being a smart ass.

Effective scene. I personally am interested how did you achieve that reddish glow around those sci-fi "mushrooms". Is it with a red radial inside the semi-transparent object, or you used more advanced technique for that?

Hi Thanks for the comments,

Horo - any advice is always welcome, I didn't know you could use decimal points, but I did know you could enter your own figures...I did have a play with the water...I will have another I think.

Richeter - I did use a radial light and twaeked the transparency until they glowed nicely. it tale a bit of playing, I knew what I wanted, and just kept going til I go it without loosing the colour. I added a red tinge to the radial too, to encourage the red glow - rather than bleaching it out to a pink colour.

Well poodlepips, that was very clever. Thanks richter for asking. It gives the impression of some colour bleed as we would expect when TA (true ambience) is used.

The red on the mountain peak at left is a give-away that a light was used. But it is a clever scheme. Might not work always, but does here.
