Race
Description: The 'Chrome Dragon' racing the 'Scout Ship' I made a while ago. They are in a low orbit. I tried to make it look like they are about to descend back to the planet. Going to work on an improved version when I have time.

The Chrome Dragon does look very nice. The hull may create considerable drag when it enters the atmosphere. You turned around the camera to have the cloud plane below. A good idea but you might want to remove the ground plane because it looks as a ceiling with shadows on it.

Agreed with Horo on the issue of drag.

The curved wings seem more useful in space. For once in air, the thickness of these wings would create considerable drag. It would also make the wings themselves rather heavy, perhaps even a third the weight of the entire plane. Too remain airborne such a ship would need very high velocity.

You are going for something different, I get that. If you can toss in some new age form of propulsion, then the wings would be used as tweaks rather than primary flight tools, allowing forgiveness for their lack of aerodynamic predictability.

I like it. What program did you use to create the shios?

Thank you.

You're probably correct about that drag. I wasn't really thinking about functionality when I was modeling it, I just wanted to make a different kind of ship.

Poodlepips, I used Maya to create both ships and brought them into Bryce to texture and render the scene.

Some of the ships will need additional smoothing to get rid of the visible edges. If you'll make a squadron of many ships in the future, you should keep the window of the closest ship is it is. Although if you're about to render more close-ups of it (the window), you should spend a little more time on it to make it look more solid, no paper-like thin. What I like here the most (aside from the sunset type of scenario) is the feeling of speed, even without motion blurring involved - that's a big plus. Keep your fingers on the trigger ;) Connor!
