Zulu Warrior
Description: Hi. While I have been a member and enjoyed all the great renders, this is the first post for me in this forum. I have been a Brycer for many years. This render is from a very old Poser character (6?) imported into Bryce. All the headgear and accessories are Bryce models. Lighting is standard professional photographer's studio lighting ratios, a key light, fill light, hair light, and kicker. 100% Diffusion, average Ambient shadow settings about 19%. A companion piece of art for the Zulu female.

Welcome to this forum, Army. This is a beautiful model and superbly lit - the shadow along the throught is perhaps a bit hard. The leopard skin on the "crown" looks amazing. Very difficult to get right in Bryce. The gear the Zulu wears is extraordinary. If this is a head in a museum, it is perfect. If he is alife, his face is powdered. We would expect a it more gloss, like what we see on the ridge of the nose. To make human skin in Bryce is very challenging. The color is very good, it's just the specularity created by faint transpiration that is missing.

Thank you for the welcome, Horo! I've made a note, and will add a bit more specularity the next time I render. Thanks, that small change will make all the difference.

Hello mr. Armstrong. Welcome :)
Impressive results with all the bryce-made accessories! For the 1st time the eyes in a bryce-rendered character feel more real then the character itself. Yes, you do know of the "few" obstacles in our beloved software when rendering human heads/faces/skin. Though the Eyes I do like much! Leaving the skin matter aside, I'd say that the only drawback this image has is the black background. What if you put some picture in the back and use a little depth of field to blur it so you can get a nice environment also?

Welcome Army.

Love the concentration behind his eyes. It feels like there could be a real soul housed within that form.

He has rather attractive features, a very good looking guy! Sure the ladies are good to him!

I am not so crazy about the skin texture itself, seems rather low in resolution for such a close up shot. The fade to black is really cool, I think.

Not sure how it would be done, but the eyes might benefit from some form of reflection mapping.

Thank you all for such a warm welcome! I believe I mentioned before this was an old character set, and it was the highest skin resolution I had at the time.

It doesn't matter now, the leopard ate him. ;)
