Music Video meets Holiday Jewelry TV Commercial
Description: Sort of a spoof on the popular dance video Single Ladies released by Beyonce.

Perhaps the morphs are a bit too much.

Feedback is appreciated. Thanks all for your time.

Hm, Rashad, should they be so muscular? I think the only girl here, who has normal face and figure is one to the right...But except of girls, nice render!

I'm not very much in these TV and video things so I'm a bit lost. The lighting is certainly very even and studio-like. The christmas balls and the plants are very nice and nicely distributed. The ladies look a bit funny, the one in the middle has legs like a praying mantis. Though I will hold back more criticism because I know how hard it is to pose characters in Studio and make them match the Bryce scene. I resort to have them not so up front. The hair looks surprisingly good and thanks to some specularity, the skin doesn't look too bad.

The morphs aren't too much. They're just too odd. But that's a minor thingy to worry about. More concerns me the noise all over the women's bodies and hair. We might have already spoken about that issue, but my memory doesn't serve me as well to remember on what image and when :) Was it the lighting applied, interacting with how you setup the skin of the chars.

The positive remarks are mainly about the lighting, as Horo, I too think it is studio-like. Seeing the gray shadows I think I'd prefer the image to be overall more contrast-boosted. That's just me, of course. Randomly dispersed Christmas balls seem nice, size and rotation differences in-between only add to the randomness, which is good. So as a whole the image suits its title. You have a music video type of shot, which happens to be a commercial too. Though I get the feeling that the ring on the low right is "too shy" to show up fully. One might think that you're selling swimsuits rather then jewelry. That's the tough thing with commercials, deciding where's the best spot to point the viewers' eyes. It's artist's choice here, and I respect that, of course.

As fine and proven the lighting can be in your scene, I can't help wondering what happened with all the textures on the surroundings. You could've added just a bit of color tint to the plant pots, if not some faint texture pattern. I believe you did not wanted to distract the viewer from the main subject and that is why you left them plain white/gray. Depending on how much exactly is the rendertime, a weak DoF might be worth considering. Small harmless suggestion.

P.S. Of course that 3 women in 1 render make a great impression!! ;) An image to remember :)

Richter and others, thanks for your feedback.

As usual, I contrived this entire scene just to have an excuse to play around with lots of human skin.

The noise is caused by the standard AA, this scene needs high quality anti aliasing to smooth out the effects.

I am generally happy with the skin, just not with the noise.

In this case, the scene is lit primarily with IBL, but as we all know IBL does not stimulate visibale specular, so it was necessary to add a halo of dim radials to provide multidirectional specular.

Also, to help increase the internal sense of the piece or better yet, the interaction of the piece, I used a good amount of reflection on the skin to help with the lighting. This is a great idea, but only if the reflections can be blurred, which is not possible in standard AA, But I made it possible with a special bump map that breaks up reflections and smooths them out. I like this method, as it is more or less correct, allowing the reflection to be broken up by the bump on the skin. I had to create a special bump map top pulll it off. So the very fact that no one complained about the reflection on the skin tells me I did a good job hiding it.

More to come. Thanks all for your time and comments.
