Hyperion
Description: New ship, all Maya. Im thinking it comes a little bit after the space shuttle for exploring the solar system. Large solar panel in the front, spinning things for artificial gravity, and lots of storage for food/ supplies. Probably not going to do much more with this model because my computer can barley open the file and change the camera view. Comments and suggestions are welcome tho. Thanks.

Really nice forms! Absolutely no qualms on the modeling, Connor. I really like it! Remember, if you render and save the image in *.tif or *.tga file, you can always take advantage of the Alpha channel in Photoshop. This will help you add whatever space/planetary background you want. without concerning yourself with the Magic wand tool in PS and carving the details out of your image. Once you load the alpha channel, you can cut (ctrl+X) and paste the isolated ship in new layer. When you load the img in Photoshop, the steps for the alpha are next to the Filter menu "Select -> Load Selection" and simply choose Alpha..

Slow opening of the source file might be because you did not optimize your model parhaps. Maybe you oversmoothed details that does not require smoothing so much. Lastly - I see no shadows anywhere (take the cylindrical part of this "sattelite" thingy on the right). Check that the light you set has engaged Raytrace shadows (or Depthmap, your choosing) What renderer are you using - Maya's software render or MentalRay?

Thank you. I will try saving it as a .tif next time. Probably will much easier. Currently I am using the Maya software to render. I didn't' smooth anything so that can't be it. There is a lot of small detail thats hard to see from here and I didn't set any lights, I just used whatever the default lighting is in Maya.

The ship is great. I can make out a couple of very fine details which we could only appreciate at a larger size. You have a great imagination to do such models.

Great ship! That solar panel looks like it also serves as a solar sail. Interesting concept. Very cool!
