Chess
Description: I love playing chess. So I modeled my own chess pieces. Lit by four radials all with soft shadows on 100. Render time was suprisingly short. Only 36 minutes.

Very nicely modelled pieces. Nicely lit, perhaps a bit on the dark side, but that's the artist's decision. Strange: the pieces cast nice shadows but the board itself not.

The board is so thin that the shadow it casts is almost invisible. Maybe that's why Horo misses those. The boolead modeling seems good enough. What needs work here are the pitchblack pieces. They look pretty much undefined by the used lighting. When you depict such black objects, there should be at lest one more 3d property, aside from shadow, that would define these objects - such as reflectivity and/or stronger specularity. A black-volume transparent substance with the max (300) for refraction will make things less plain and more dramatic I think.
